AVENUE
Q started its life in 2002 with an off-Broadway run at
the 200 seat Vineyard Theatre, where it was extended four
times. It then opened at the Golden Theatre on Broadway
in July 2003 to critical acclaim. To the delight of all
involved, the show went on to beat favourite “Wicked”
to win three of the top 2004 Tony Awards: Best Musical,
Best Original Score of a Musical and Best Book of a Musical.
Conceived
by Robert Lopez and Jeff Marx, who wrote the music and
lyrics and book by Jeff Whitty, Avenue Q is still running
on Broadway, the West End, a US National Tour, and had
its premiere in Las Vegas in 2006.
Avenue Q is a new breed of musical performed by a wonderful mix of humans and puppets. It features full puppet nudity and songs like Everyone’s a Little Bit Racist, The Internet is for Porn, and If You Were Gay. Cross Sesame Street with South Park, give it an X-rating and you’ve got the funniest musical ever created.
Avenue Q had its Australian premiere at the Comedy Theatre in Melbourne on 4 June 2009. The production also toured Australia starting from Sydney, Canberra, Perth, Adelaide, and Brisbane. It will then be touring Auckland in May 2010.
Savagely
funny, yet surprisingly poignant, after five years on
Broadway and three years in London’s West End they’re
still Queuing!
SO
COME SEE WHAT ALL THE FUZZ IS ABOUT!
Preview begins:
Auckland from May 2010
